Visiting politicians

Lord Haskel, a deputy speaker of the House of Lord's, visited the Richmond foodbank at the end of November. Lord Haskel was seeking to put a question before the house which might stimulate an inquiry into UK food poverty. Earlier in the month we had a visit from Stephen Knight, the Lib Dem London Assembly member speaking for economic, environmental and health issues.

We collected 14 cages of food at Teso Twickenham at the beginning of December, that is over 200 crates, nearly 3000kgs. Thank you to Tesco Twickenham and thank you to all our volunteers who helped us from Friday to Sunday, as well as the staff at the store. The supermarket will also add 30% in value as a cash donation.

The Vineyard Community Centre and Richmond food bank were invited to participate in the opening of the Whole foods Market in Richmond on October 8th. The Centre is one of 5 local charities to receive 1% of their opening day proceeds and the foodbank will collect surplus food Monday to Thursdays. Thank you Wholefoods!

In September 2013 New Philanthropy Capital (NPC) have published an independent report on foodbanks and the Trussell Trust in particular. This and other recent press articles and reports can be found at this link:  PRESS AND REPORTS
