Thanksgivng service

On October 12th a thanksgiving for our harvest donations brought many moving tributes. You can listen to the contributions here, and to the Sunday message from our chairman Bob Kimmerling which followed here.

 

Channel 4 News

Fatima Manji and film crew of Channel 4 News visited the foodbank at the Vineyard Community Centre on August 28th and aired footage that evening. It followed a press release from Shelter concerning those in food poverty who were in work. 

 

FOOD DONATIONS NEEDED

We currently have a food shortage for the following items : -

Tinned  fruit, veg and meat, sugar (500gms) , UHT milk, long life fruit juice, pasta sauce, sponge and rice  puddings, mashed potato, Jam/marmalade and coffee.   We have a surplus of pasta, tea and breakfast cereals - but all items are gratefully recceived - thank you!

Visiting politicians

Lord Haskel, a deputy speaker of the House of Lord's, visited the Richmond foodbank at the end of November. Lord Haskel was seeking to put a question before the house which might stimulate an inquiry into UK food poverty. Earlier in the month we had a visit from Stephen Knight, the Lib Dem London Assembly member speaking for economic, environmental and health issues.

SUPERMARKET COLLECTIONS 

Our next supermarket collection is Saturday July 5th 2014 at Tesco, Twickenham.(Mogden Lane).  Please contact foodbank@vineyardcommunity.org  if you are able to volunteer for a two hour shift. Volunteers can either man our collection point to receive and sort food, or hand customers our shopping list and request items for purchase and donation. We will expect to collect about 1500kgs of food on this day which will be sufficient for about a month of our local.opertaion.

The supermarket will also add 30% in value as a cash donation.

WHOLEFOODS MARKET OPENING

The Vineyard Community Centre and Richmond food bank were invited to participate in the opening of the Whole foods Market in Richmond on October 8th. The Centre is one of 5 local charities to receive 1% of their opening day proceeds and the foodbank will collect surplus food Monday to Thursdays. Thank you Wholefoods!
